Chico High School Choral Department
Welcome!
Chico High School has a long and distinguished history of having a strong music program.
The school is in its 100th year since it opened in 1902.
Over the years, CHS has been fortunate to have some very talented music directors and students.
The trophies, plaques and awards are too numerous to even display in one place.
There are seven ensembles in the department -
A Cappella,
Madrigals,
Cantilena (womens choir),
Mens Choir,
ChicoVoce (jazz choir),
Chico Chic (girls quartet), and the
Sac Street Boys (barbershop quartet).
Each of these ensembles performs at concerts and for special events in the community throughout the year.
The three larger ensembles consistently take top honors at regional and superior festivals in Northern California.
The Sac Street Boys have been featured guest artists at area barbershop festivals and concerts.
The Madrigal Choir participated in the Heritage Music Festival in Los Angeles
in the spring of 2000 and were one of two choirs from that event that were invited to the Festival of
Honors held in Washington D.C.
Last year was a milestone year for the Choral Department.
In April of 2001, A capella Choir traveled to Australia to perform in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.
No performing ensemble at Chico High School has had the opportunity to perform abroad since 1974.
This was an historic occasion for the school and an experience of a lifetime for the students who
participated in this international tour. A webpage has been made about the CHS a capella Australia trip.
