Welcome to the Shadow Council Homepage
The Chico Youth Shadow City Council is a group of students who hold shadow positions of City Council and Department Heads. The Shadow Council has its own Mayor, Vice Mayor, City Manager and Police Chief. Students are given the opportunity to interact with their real life counterparts, to learn about how the city operates. Shadow Council members go through real meetings with real agenda items, and form real solutions that have real affects on our community.The Chico Youth Shadow City Council program was created in part to be a liaison from the youth of Chico to the city government. The City of Chico wants to hear what the youth in the community have to say. So dont loose your chance, talk to a Chico youth shadow member today!
Shadow Council Purpose:
to provide an opportunity to acquire a greater knowledge of our local political system through active participation
to give students an in-depth understanding of local governments and its relationship to its citizenry
to give the young people of the City of Chico a platform to identify the needs of their peers and give them an outlet to voice concerns
to create a positive image in the community and give our youth a chance to be pro-active and to move their ideas into action
to identify youth issues and solutions and present them to the city council
to allow student council members to work with sitting city council members and department heads in meaningful and focused discussions
to promote community pride and inclusion
to promote teamwork
to introduce by learning, parliamentary procedures
