Elements
The Icons
I drew these by hand fullscreen size and then shrunk them to give the illusion of detail. I was also careful to ailias them to the background color of the page.
I used them to indent the first line of an article, and differentiate it from earlier text that is seperate from it. I also used them by links pointing back to the top of the page.
I also drew these at full size, then shrunk them. I don't know quite what they are, a spear shooting through a dreamcatcher, maybe. But it looks cool, and gives interest to an otherwise boring and contentless page.
The NavBar Background
I took forever finding a perfect picture of desert mountains like this, but when I finally got it, it had problems. It had a little guy in the picture. So I had to erase him.
Then I added in the blind lines to make it look cool and modern, but I tapered it off into white, making use of the exponential full white lines and increasing lightness after each line untill it was washed out into the white background I wanted.
The NavBar
I started with this tiny picture from Corbis.com. From there, I laid out the links the way I wanted, and made the words appear carved into the picture, then rounded the whole thing off, like a piece of marble or something, chopped it up, and put the different pieces in different table cells.
Then I went over the links, and made them look regressed, and sat them on top of the other images when you roll over them. I only made the rollovers cover the content that would change to make them smaller and load faster.

The last thing I did was cause the rollovers to load one at a time when you first load the page, this does two things. First, it shows you that you can click there, and second, it preloads them into the casche, so you don't get a delay when you rollover the first time.
The Side Band
I foudn a picture of a cool looking band ona piece of cloth. it was all sideways and crazy, but after i eventually straightened it out, I got this. Then I had to make it fit together to repeat down the band. Finally giving it a raised appearance.
