The "Learn and Serve" Connection
Key elements of service learning projects are restoration and comunity action. The WEP encourages the incorporation of fun and creativity as well! Below are locations available to WEP educators for field trips and restoration projects. Please also feel free to contact Anne Stephens in order to help you plan and successfully implement your visit!
Local Field Trips & Restoration Sites
The Watershed Education Project has several sites where teachers can take their classes for creek and ecology field trips:
- The Keeney Preserve in Durham is a great demonstration site for showing how orchards can be returned to the native riparian vegetation.
- Bidwell Park Annie's Glen and One-Mile Recreation Area have areas designated for restoration. The Stream Minders organization can assist in field trips.
- Bidwell Ranch Wildflower Tours are available each spring.
- Butte Creek Preserve - Honey Run Unit operated by CSU Chico, is being developed as a living laboratory.
