Today I would like to tell you a story of Thrift and Oddity....

This story begins in college when I discovered several fabulous second-hand stores here in town. I found that useful items often ended up on the shelves there, passed up by many an untrained eye, left to waste away ... until a deal-finding, style-savvy, quirky-item-loving shopper snatches them up and gives them new life.

I have a particular penchant for purchasing general household and kitchen items. My current hand-crank egg-beater is a lovely vintage pink: looks like an item in the Williams-Sonoma Susan G. Komen Collection. Or the set of four off-white linen napkins from Pottery Barn. Or the set of mismatched silverware, plates, and

Post-Christmas Blahs?

Dan went to work this morning and I watched 3 hours of the BBC’s Sense and Sensibility after I woke up from a long winter’s nap. By 4pm I had enjoyed doing a lot of nothing, so I put on some warm clothes and headed to the coast... and remembered to take the camera.

Nothing all that unusual,
just a sunset in December... Wow!

Katie meets the trail

Last week we made our first combined trek to backpack together in the Sierras. Katie convinced me that this was a good time and we indeed made a good time out of it. At the suggestion of Reed Jolley, I decided that the Mammoth area would be the best site for our adventure.

With the late change in plans, we left Goleta at 7pm and arrived in Mammoth at 2:30am and camped in the honda with the back seat down - not recommended, but quicker than the alternatives. We started at Agnew meadows and hiked along the Shadow Trail past Shadow Lake and up to Ediza Lake (about 6 or so miles) where we set up camp and stayed for two nights. A day hike brought us up above Iceberg Lake which was also amazing.

While in Oregon for Nic and Krystal’s wedding, we swung by the Orgeon coast. We drove and drove and drove during this vacation, but boy was it beautiful.

SO... We have been enjoying a few weddings this summer! Big congratulations to the Wilson, Birch, Berbee, Talaski and Wanser families! We had a great time celebrating with you and Dan had an even better time dancing (Liz and Mike, sorry you missed his moves!).
