Well, fall is definitely in the air and there’s no better time like the present to share some exciting news with you from Westmont.
The class of 2013 has arrived in time to witness the completion of the first new building on campus since 1985. Campus planners, friends, and Westmont alumni saw the first fruits of their hard work when, on September 10, they watched the College’s Keck Telescope being lowered into the metallic dome at the new observatory. Students will start attending classes at the yet-to-be-named observatory in January, and the telescope will be available for public viewing at Homecoming on Friday, October 16. We hope you’ll consider joining the entire Westmont family for this exciting event!

The completion of the observatory marks a milestone in Westmont’s master plan construction. The observatory is the first of many new buildings that current and future Westmont students will enjoy! We would like to thank everyone from the Class of ’91 for your prayers and support as our alma mater has striven to reach this goal. Feel free to read more about the new observatory and the Keck Telescope, and stay up-to-date by viewing photos and following the construction progress.
We’d also like to share with you some news about an impressive exhibition at Westmont’s Reynolds Art Gallery. “Sordid and Sacred: The Beggars in Rembrandt’s Etchings” will be on display until Saturday, October 31. Reynolds Gallery and Director Judy L. Larson invite visitors to view the 36 etchings from the John Villarino Collection. Please make plans to enjoy this remarkable exhibit during Homecoming weekend on October 16 and 17.
Finally, in August the U.S. News and World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges, 2010 Edition”, ranked Westmont 92nd out of the nation’s 266 liberal arts colleges. Having leaped 19 spots in this year’s rankings, Westmont has now spent five straight years in the top tier. Westmont is just one of two liberal arts colleges among the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) in the top 100, and the only one in California to be ranked in the first tier.
We pray that you and your family have a wonderful fall. We hope many of you will be able to attend Homecoming Weekend on October 16 and 17. If you need further Homecoming information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call the Alumni & Parent Relations office at (805) 565-6056.
In His love,
Tyler and Kris Gibbs
