Giving to Westmont

Hello Westmont 1980 alumni!

We hope this email finds you all doing well! We enjoyed seeing some of you at Homecoming last month with your families...it was a great time to reconnect with you and with Westmont. While we each were so blessed to attend this year's Homecoming, we got to thinking how great it would be if we could stay in touch throughout the year...

So with that in mind, it is our pleasure to serve as new Class Agent representatives for 1981, and also 1980 and 1982 while the people at Westmont are searching for representatives for those years. Over the coming year, we'll be writing a series of quarterly newsletters to help you stay connected with your fellow alumni and keep you informed of the latest news and events occurring at Westmont. You'll also hear from others in our classes about what they've been up to since their time at Westmont. Our hope is that you'll remain an active member of the ever-growing Westmont community and find your place of involvement in the ongoing life and mission of the college. And if that place of involvement would incline you to consider joining as a Class Agent for 1980 or 1982, we invite you to send an email to classagents@westmont.edu to find out more.

For our first newsletter, we'd like to start by sharing an update of what we each have done since our time at Westmont...

Steve and Kelly (Nessen) Bagdanov

Kelly and I have been bearing children, pastoring churches and running a Home School Group since we left Westmont. We stayed in Santa Barbara for a year before leaving for Seminary (started at Westminister Ca. and finished my MDiv. at Talbot ('85). From there we landed in Orange County where I pastored Canyon Hills Evangelical Free Church. Kelly was busy getting pregnant and we had four sons.

The last twenty years of our life have been spent in a small town called Nuevo in the Inland Empire of Southern California. I am the Pastor of Nuevo Community Church and Kelly runs Grace Prep. School. Our four boys all drank the KoolAid and are Westmont grads / current students: Tim ('07), Levi ('10), Caleb ('12) and Joseph ('14). Tim is married to Jessica ('07) and Levi is recently engaged to Kristin George ('09). All of us are Westmonters!

Ed and Lorinda (Roberts) Dry

Lorinda and I are very pleased to serve as Class Agents along with Steve and Kelly for the class of '81. It's been fun reconnecting with the Bagdanov's since both our sons started at Westmont last year and are friends. We had a fantastic time at the 30th reunion at Westmont Homecoming this year, activities during the day, a wonderful dinner Saturday night at Stella Mare's which included Gayle and Pam Beebe whom we've claimed as part of our class, topped off by a truly special time on Sunday just hanging out with Friends of the Class of '81 in my dad's backyard. For those who were at Homecoming you know what a special time it was, and for those who could not attend we look forward to seeing you in future years.

How can we sum up what we've been up to for the past 30 years in only a couple sentences? That's pretty tough. After I earned my twin Ph.D.s in Astrophysics and Early American Dance I won the lottery, solved world hunger and designed an energy generator that can power an entire city the size of LA on two AA batteries. Now I'm just writing my memoir to be published early next year. And oh, Lorinda's been busy too.

Actually, Lorinda and I were married a year or so after Westmont and have lived all this time in Southern California. We raised 3 kids, Annalise (24) who graduated from Pepperdine and is now gainfully employed, Janelle (21) who is a junior at Academy of Art University in SF, and David (20) who is a sophomore at Westmont, currently on Europe Semester. I've been in Hi-Tech sales all my career, worked for Apple in the 80's, Dell in the 90's and now for Ricoh. Lorinda has been a stay-at-home Mom while the kids were growing up and is now working for a local marketing company and as a substitute teacher mainly in high school. Since David started Westmont last year it's been great fun to discover so many of our former classmates now have students there. It makes visiting the college and Santa Barbara so much more fun and we don't bug David as much when we visit. Being reconnected to Westmont we've been amazed at how God is using the college, and the lifelong impact on students, parents and alumni.
