Giving to Westmont

Dear Class of 2002,

I hope your Summer went very well. If you're going to be in Santa Barbara on October 14-15, I hope you'll drop by homecoming and look through some of the improvements that are (still) being made to campus...

After the completion of Westmont's new buildings for Art and Science last year, the Art Department vacated the old "Reynolds Gallery" (you remember the old building situated below Armington near Deane Chapel)...Crews spent the summer transforming the interior of Reynolds into a state-of-the-art Music building, complete with 12 soundproof practice rooms (up from just 4 in their previous home) and faculty offices...Check it out when you're on campus next...The improvement is stunning! And now that music has moved out of Porter Theatre, the Theatre Arts and Biology departments are getting new spaces for their students as well.

As always, I welcome and invite you to send me an article about what you've been up to recently. For this newsletter, I'd like to thank Megan (Shrader) Alexander and Marisa (Medeiros) Hooper for sharing your lives with us!

In His Grace,

David O'Neil, Class Agent for 2002

Megan Alexander feels very far from Santa Barbara and the beach these days! The 2002 graduate is starting her 4th year living in New York City and working as an on-air correspondent for the TV show "Inside Edition" - Television's longest running syndicated newsmagazine show. (www.insideedition.com) She covers everything for the show - business, politics, entertainment, health and features. She also can be seen on CNN Headline News as a contributor for programs like "Showbiz Tonight". She will be hosting the Inspirational Country Music Awards this fall in Nashville for the second time - the show can be seen worldwide on DayStar television. She is a favorite panelist and moderator for events and discussions.

Megan and her husband Brian welcomed their first baby, a boy named Chace, this past spring. They attend Morning Star Church in Manhattan, love the energy the city offers, and enjoy working with a variety of ministries - Megan serves on the Board of a Women's Professional Organization called "PURE", and also works with the NAM program for young girls. Megan loves connecting with other Alumni - you can find her on Facebook and Twitter : MeganAlexander1

Marisa (Medeiros) Hooper

My name is Marisa (Medeiros) Hooper. In these last nine years, I graduated from Westmont and become a Christian Educator. I have been a Christian Preschool teacher for the last eight years, in Turlock,California. I have a great class of three year olds that I am blessed with daily. I married my wonderful husband Nathan in February 2007 and we have a life together in Modesto California. I enjoy teaching little ones about the joy of Jesus. We are active in our church community and are blessed to be a part of a growing young marrieds ministry. We pray that the Lord will bless us with a family in the near future. I have wonderful memories of my time at Westmont and am grateful for the doors that it has opened up in my life.
