5.     The address field is needed in an Ethernet LAN protocol because everyone needs to know the destination address.  If it is a broadcast message you would want a special address so everyone would know it is for everyone.

 

  1. The advantage of a centralized LAN would be that it would make it so there would be no collisions between messages sent by two different nodes.

 

  1. Disagree: because even though we are trying to get the message sent it cannot be guaranteed in a fixed amount of time.

 

  1. a) The minimum links needed is N-1.

 

b) You would need redundant links, a completely connected network.

 

13.   a) There are 7 simple paths:

A-B-E-D-C-G, A-B-C-G, A-D-C-G, A-D-E-C-G, A-B-E-C-G, A-D-E-B-C-G, A-F-G

 

b)    The shortest path is A-D-E-C-G and A-B-E-C-G which both equal 10.

c)     Yes it would change the shortest path. The shortest path now is A-D-C-G, A-F-G, and A-B-C-G, which are all 11.
